Critical Realism for Early Career Researchers

A BSA Early Career Forum Regional Event

10 July 2023 (9.30am-4.30pm)
Nottingham Trent University, UK

About the Event

Beginning to use Social Realism or Critical Realism in your academic work can feel daunting. This one-day event at Nottingham Trent University will bring together Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to share their work and ideas about Social and Critical Realism. This includes people who are just starting to explore Critical Realism, to those who have used it in their published work.

The day begins with a keynote speech with Q&A from Emeritus Professor Alistair Mutch, reflecting on his own use of Critical Realist concepts. This is followed by presentations and workshops which invite ECRs to share and reflect on their ideas, questions and current work in progress – how are you currently using Critical Realism, what are the uses and limitations, and how does it fit with other theories?

This event aims to give the opportunity for ECRs to share their current work, gain feedback in a supportive environment and to come and learn from others – no prior experience necessary. Please also consider presenting your own work or hosting a workshop, there are still options available. Contact Stephanie King (PGR) for more details.
